  • =    Malibu may ban flammable landscaping.
  • =    Damaged septic tanks can be repaired … with federal dollars.
  • =   The Point Dume staircase repair is being blocked by a neighbor … for now.
  • =   And two months after the fire … the Malibu pool is supposed to reopen to the public today.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news. It’s the   ((((  Friday  ))) edition of the news … from Radio Malibu  …. F-M 99 point 1 K B U U. Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

Disaster workers have scheduled a public meeting tomorrow at Malibu City Hall.

The meeting will offer information and updates regarding assistance available to people and businesses impacted by the fire.

The meeting will include representatives from SBA, FEMA and other agencies.

The California Office of Emergency Services and the L A County Department of Public Works will be there to answer questions … including questions like “when will debris removal actually begin???”

The Woolsey Fire Recovery Meeting will be Saturday at 10 in the morning at Malibu City Hall.

Malibu may ban the use of dangerously flammable plants as landscaping.

The city already has an ordinance that prohibits certain landscaping if it consumes lots of water … and that ordinance promotes the use of drought-tolerant plants and trees.

New city councilwoman Karen Farrer wants her colleagues to consider prohibiting the planting of certain plants and trees … which are known to be flammable or to aid in the spread of wildfires.

The next city council meeting is a week from Monday.

Plans to replace the staircase at Point Dume State Beach are hung up … by a neighbor who objects to the replacement project.

California State Parks has been trying for years to replace the staircase that goes down the cliff … from the nature preserve on the bluff down to Big Dume and Little Dume beaches.

Some heavy equipment will be needed … including a 100 ton crane … which will have a 140 swing arm.

The new staircase will be 240 feet in length … and will sit on 36 cast in drilled hole  pilings.

A neighbor has formed a group called Freinds of Point Dume.

They hired local project exoedite Dion Schmitz to file objections at the city Planning Commission.

The objections .. not enough parking … violated CEQA … et cetera.

The Planning Commisson rejected the objections and approved the access plan … Schmitz filed an appeal with the city council.

They will hear the appeal January Tenth.
