A truck driver’s act of road courtesy indirectly led to his death yesterday … when a water truck rolled backwards and fell over a cliff on Deer Creek Road west of Malibu.

The 68 year old man who was killed was from San Bernardino County … according to Ventura county CHP officers.

He was hauling 20,000 pounds of water in a tank up the steep roadway yesterday morning at nine … when he pulled off the road to let cars behind his truck pass.

For reasons yet to be determined … the truck rolled backwards … over the cliff about 1 mile north of Pacific Coast Highway.

Witnesses watched in horror as the truck flipped multiple times on the way down … coming to a stop 2000 feet down a steep hill from the roadway.

A firefighter went down to determine whether anyone was hurt and found the 68-year-old driver had died from his injuries.

Ventura county firefighters used a helicopter to recover the body.

The truck driver was from Twin Peaks … near Lake Arrowhead.

His name has not been released.
