Malibu High Sends In Restorative Justice Team

Written by on May 16, 2019

Santa Monica-Malibu School officials have held meetings and talked with students to address the video of a fight that had nasty racial overtones.

This comes after dozens of students stood on Morning View Drive yesterday morning to decry the atmosphere that led to a schoolyard fight.

A special team has been brought in to the school … to handle discipline and engage in a campus-wide discussion.

This is called restorative justice.

The district says the plan is to have many conversations with students as possible.

Video of the fight has surfaced on the internet … and picked up by the Los Angeles T-V stations.

It picks up as a fight is in progress.

It shows students spitting on each other .,.. and hurling insults at each other … some of them racial,

In one case .. a student says he is going to kill … or have his father kill … another student.

Sheriffs deputies reportedly have been called about this.

It is not clear what is happening … because these are all school students and juveniles who are covered by privacy laws.

The district is telling parents in another letter … in a letter sent late last night … that they ended the day engaging faculty and staff in a meaningful conversations aboutthe incident.

Helping the faculty to speak with students to address their concerns …. as well as continuing to meet their academic needs.

The school’s psychologist and counseling staff are playing an instrumental role in helping to meet these needs … according to the school.

They are involving the Boys and Girls Club as well as the Wellness Center in our conversations today.
