Santa Monica Airport Jet Ops Down 82 Percent

Written by on May 21, 2018

And it news from down the coast … Santa Monica chopped off the ends of its runways at Santa Monica municipal Airport this year … to decrease the amount a jet airplane traffic at the facility.

It worked.

A city report released last week shows that corporate jet takeoffs and landings at Santa Monica Airport dropped by 86 percent over last year.

Overall airplane and helicopter traffic at Santa Monica airport is down about 10 percent as well.

But the percentage of helicopter use at the airport is increasing.

Shortening the runway was the first step in an 11-year timetable to close the facility… which is the closest small airplane airport to Malibu.

This story was reported in the Santa Monica Lookout newspaper.
