Deadly Malibu Road To Costco To Get RR Overpass

Written by on May 21, 2018

In news from up the coast … final hurdles were met last week for the construction of an overpass above the railroad tracks … a deadly railroad grade crossing on the road between Malibu and the 101 freeway in Oxnard.

Rive Avenue will get a $68.6 million overpass … open in a few years.

California’s gas tax increase will pay for the project …. which will eliminate the railroad gates where a train hit a truck two years ago …. killing a Metrolink engineer.

The California state transportation commission approved the project at its meeting last week.

And also last week … Caltrans officials approved the environmental impact report… according to the Ventura county star.

That clears the way for the final design blueprints to be drawn up for the project.

Rice Avenue is the highway with traffic lights that links the Pacific Coast Highway to the 101 freeway near the Oxnard Costco.

Ventura county and Caltrans are negotiating over the state possibly taking over maintenance of Rice Avenue … this has not been repaved in 25 years and is falling apart.

It serves as the western connection between Malibu and the outside world.

The railroad overpass should be finished in the year 2020.
