Moonshadows Says They Went Beyond County Recommendations In COVID Case

Written by on July 24, 2020

Moonshadows restaurant says it followed all the proper steps when it discovered that three of its kitchen staff members came down with Coronavirus several weeks ago.

Restaurant owner Franco Simplicio says he immediately closed Moonshadows for 3 days … even though they were not required to do so.

During those 3 days they hired a company to do a deep cleaning ..

All members of the staff that worked in close proximity to these 3 employees or that spent at least some time near them.

and discovered that three additional workers had tested positive.

All employees got tested and three other kitchen members tested positive

All of these employees are still at home recovering or in quarantine … says the Simplicio … and none were hospitalized.

Moonshadows continues to practice all requirements of the health department and beyond … he says.

The restaurant is open for outdoor dining in accordance with the county health department orders.

This editor’s note:

KBUU and the Pacific Palisades newspaper both reported about Moonshadows yesterday morning.

KBUU named Moonshadows on the air … but not on the web.

The newspaper named Moonshadows on the web..

Neither of our stories were inaccurate ….. both were correct and based on the official L A County health report issued the night before.

But neither story was complete.

KBUU kept the name of the restaurant off of the station’s internet coverage … all morning.

We were trying to get ahold of Moonshadows for the important context that they could add to the story.

But that resulted in people complaining … they wanted to know which eastern Malibu restaurant we were reporting on.

One person publicly posted “we deserve to be told the name of the restaurant.”

And she was right.

People need to know information like this … that;s why the county puts it out … that’s why it was news.

By midmorning …  other people were spreading the identity of the restaurant on the web … including on our pages.

And they had the right to do that.

What you saw yesterday was a news story breaking in real time.

In the old days … the story would be held until we had the complete picture.

That luxury does not exist anymore.

Moonshadows did everything right … and it should be reported as such.

So did the journalists ….
