Speed Humps On Fernhill and Dume Will Go In Soon

Written by on July 24, 2020

The City of Malibu will lower the speed limit from 30 to 25 miles an hour, and install speed humps … on two Point Dume Streets next month. The pavement will be changed starting in early August.

The Public Safety Commission had urged the speed reduction effort … in order to reduce speeding vehicles and improve safety in the residential area.

In 2016, the city installed speed humps on smaller residential streets in Point Dume. Residents on those streets have been largely happy …

But some residents on the two streets … Fernill and Dume Drive … are still adamantly opposed. They feel the humps will slow down fire trucks … and make noise.

But others who have been opposed to the idea have been coming around … with the changing traffic conditions since the COVIS Crisis came up.

The work to install the new speed humps along Dume Drive and Fernhill Drive will require brief lane closures with one lane remaining open and the City says they will conduct public outreach about the work locations, schedule and traffic impacts.
