Malibu Beach Inn Resumes Construction On Its Very Own PCH Traffic Light

Written by on June 7, 2019

Construction has resumed on that new traffic light … that the Malibu Beach Inn is building on Pacific Coast Highway just east of the Malibu Pier.

Crews are pouring footings for the new signal … which sits less than 500 feet east of the existing stop light at the Malibu Pier.

The Malibu Beach Inn is building the traffic light so that it can move its parking lot across P C H … onto the inland side of the highway … and then build a pool for its guests in its current parking lot.

Caltrans has approved construction of the signal even though the cioty Planning Commission has rejected the proposed hotel arking lot across P C H.

This is the second traffic signal being installed on P C H by Caltrans against the stated wishes of the City of Malibu.

At Latigo Beach … the state is pressing ahead with plans to build a pedestrian activated traffic signal .. near Malibu Seafood.

The city gipvernment has not taken a stand on that one … but Malibu rsidnets blasted the Caltrans plan at a meeting earlier this spring.

City engineers report that caktrans officials are not backing down on that one.

One city resident says Caltrans is giving a big fat safety orange middle finger to Malibu.

Questions for Caltrans:  why is the state agency ignoring the city of Malibu?

No response from the agency yet,
