At one end of the Malibu social strategy … the rich and famous partied last night.

At the other end. … volunteers scraping togethers surfboards for kids and adults who lost everything in the fire.

Victims were treated to new and recycled surfing gear at Saturday’s Malibu Stokefest. These boys looked like Christmas morning in the wetsuit department.

KBUU’s Sandy Bottoms interviewed Ted Silverberg, the insurance agent-volunteer who put this together in 8 days. It was

KBUU’s first ever live remote from the beach, we transmitted from the back of the SUV, using the car radio for off-air monitors.

Meanwhile, a thousand and 15 miles away …

There was a 50 thousand dollar mic drop at the One Love Malibu benefit show last night.

The celebrity concert to raise money for the Malibu Foundation raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the fire relief fund … administered by the Malibu Boys and Girls Club.

Celebrity singers such as Macy Gray, Robin Thicke and Rita Wilson were on the playbill.

And Katy Perry performed “Roar,” “By the Grace of God” and “Firework” at the show at King Gillette Ranch.

Perry stepped up to the stage to auction off a date with actor Orlando Bloom.

One excited fan bid $20,000 on the experience, but Perry decided to out-do the highest bidder. “Laura, I’m sorry. I’m buying it for $50,000,” she said, dropping her mic onto the stage and walking off.

Tickets for the event sold out immediately … it was moved from a local ranch to King Gillette.
