Finally this morning … an aggressive mountain lion near San Diego was shot and killed after it attacked a small child.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers said this cougar was shot because it appeared to have little fear of humans. That’s an unusual and potentially dangerous trait… they said. ,

A four-year-old boy was with a group of about a dozen people in a wild area when the cat attacked.

The boy’s father kicked the large animal and threw a rock to scare it away.

The child was injured … hospitalized is expected to be released soon.

Three game wardens sent to investigate the attack quickly found what appeared to be mountain lion tracks and were later approached by an 80-pound, female cat with her ears pinned back.

She was dispatched.

Although cougars in the Santa Monica Mountains have attacked farm animals …. they have never dropped their fear of humans or attacked any people.
