Two Malibu city council members say they were at that meeting of the California Contract Cities Association Convention that features a bloody brawl … two weekends ago …

But they were asleep in their hotel rooms at 12:30 in the morning when the fight broke out.

The embarrassing sideshow put a spotlight on the conventions … which are regularly attended Malibu city council members.

You heard Skylar Peak discuss the sheriff … who was at that convention two weeks ago.

At last night’s city Council meeting … Karen Farrer said the city council members get valuable insight at the conventions.

“I wanted people to know that it’s not just hanging out and hobnobbing with other cities.

“And some of the topics included,

“There were a lot of workshops and panel discussions.

“Rethinking how we handle crises.

“On the frontlines of homelessness

“The first responders of today and tomorrow.”

As we mentioned earlier … the convention this time included discussions over Malibu’s payments to the L A county sheriff.
