——

News emerged yesterday that a U S Navy sailor was injured during the visit of the U S S Lake Champlain to Malibu.

The sailor’s foot was crushed …. as the ship heaved against the barge that had been anchored next to it as a platform.

Malibu Mayor Jefferson Wagner says he accompanied the sailor to a hospital.

The ship’s captain spent the night at the hospital with her injured sailor.

City manager Reva Feldman says pressure on the County of Los Angeles is mounting …. over the issue of inadequate water service.  And she hopes to have a solution soon.  Details:   https://www.radiomalibu.net/city-hopes-fire-and-water-reason/

The popular Cornucopia Farmers Market has lost part of its area to the construction of a new Santa Monica College branch in Malibu.  And it needs to use a city-owned vacant lot … the ChiliCook Off site … for parking.  Details:  https://www.radiomalibu.net/farmers-market-gets-10-year-lease/

More complaints last night … at the city council meeting … from residents about the grading of a grass-covered field into a gravel-covered utility company parking lot in the heart of Malibu. But the plan is to leave the field in a condition better than the weeds there before.  Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/edison-promise-a-natural-meadow/

Caltrans has told the City of Malibu that it wants to install a pedestrian crosswalk at Malibu Seafood … near Corral Beach.

The state agency controls Malibu’s main street … it has noted heavy pedestrian crossings at that location.

At one time … a path was maintained under the highway at the Corral Creek bridge.

But the creek has been changing course … the fire didn’t do any good … and the path under the highway has been in disuse.

City manager Reva Feldman has asked the state to hold a community meeting about the proposed traffic signal.

That will happen sometime in March.

Some community members have said they worry about the traffic light proposed for the bottom of a long downgrade on P C H.

But  the signal may slow traffic down at a place where cars routinely speed down the hill … only to mix in with heavy beach traffic and people crossing the highway.

The decision will be solely up to the state transportation agency,

Los Angeles County sheriff Alex Villanueva continues to shift high ranking command staff locally.

A new captain has been appointed to head the Malibu Los t Hills sheriff’s station.

Acting Lt. Chuck Becerra introduced himself to the city council and community last night .

He joins Lt. Jennifer Seetoo as the one-two team heading the local police force.

The former Captain … Thiu Wright … and Lt Jim Royal were transferred out in a management shakeup.

The sheriff has not explained anything about the need for the changes.

They come after the local sheriff’s management was criticized by some … but not a majority … of malibu residents.

This .. over the Malibu Canyon murders … and the Malibu fires roadblocks.

Many locals felt the local mangers were being made fall guys for those unpopular issues.

Should the old fire breaks in the Santa Monica Mountains be reactivated???

The Coalition for Fire Safe Communities hosts a public meeting to present its plan …  tomorrow … Wednesday … 6 to 8:30 p.m.

At the Hughes Research Lab on Malibu Canyon Road.  Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/call-for-fire-break-extinguishers/

Finally this morning … after fire and floods … hail and snow this winter … what can come next???

The U S G S now says there is a 16 percent chance of a volcanic eruption in the next 30 years in California.

And yes…. the potential volcanoes in Calfornia are a long way away from Malibu.

But not that far.

Mammoth Lakes is an active volcanic field.

So is the Coso Volcanic Field near China Lake.

But our favorite nearby volcano is the Salton Buttes … not too far south of Palm Springs.

Those little babies are sitting right next to the San Andreas Fault in the state’s southeast corner.

You know … the fault that could jump into an 8 point 3 megaquake at the slightest little trigger?

The one that would trigger The Big One here in Malibu???

Something to think about …
