A statewide bill banning the use of rat poison appears to have passed … just before midnight.

The vote in the state Assembly was 53-17 and 9 abstentions.

Assembly Bill 1788 passed The bill passed out of the Senate by a 23-7 vote in the Senate … with 10 not voting.

Of course … the devil is in the details.

We do not yet know how or if the bill was amended late in the session.

There are also protections for farmers and ranchers.

Again … we are waiting for more details to emerge from Sacramento.

Other key bills that were defeated just at the last minute:

A bill that would have allowed duplexes to be built on all lots zoned for single family homes … defeated.

Other key bills that were defeated just at the last minute:

A bill that would have given California the nation’s toughest statewide restrictions on single-use plastic packaging, food containers and utensils … defeated.

But a bill requiring plastic bottles to contain at least 50% recycled plastic by 2030 cleared the Legislature … and has been sent to California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.
