Short Term Rental Meeting Set For Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.

Short term rentals in Malibu … the contentious matter will go before the Malibu City Council for a public hearing in two weeks.

City staff members are finalizing an ordinance to regulate vacation rentals of houses … apartments or airstream trailers in Malibu.

The current plan is to require such rentals to be limited to one unit per property … require on site parking except in places where no on-site parking is available … prohibit overnight rentals in condominiums … and require a working septic system.

The public hearing will be at the next city Council meeting … on Wednesday, September 26th … in that meeting will start at 5 P-M.

The city council will have a delicate balancing act … with many residents opposed to Hotels in their neighborhoods … other residents reliant on income from overnight rentals … and the California coastal commission anxious to increase the amount of low cost visitor beds along the Malibu coast.
