SCE Tree Saws To Head To Las Flores, Big Rock

Written by on June 14, 2019

Aggressive cutting of trees and bushes continues in Malibu … as Southern California Edison is racing to reduce fire danger.

And also … to reduce its potential liability for causing another deadly and destructive wildfire.

The company is expected to complete tree trimming on Point Dume and the Paradise Cove area by July 5.

SCE is also conducting pre-inspections the eastern part of Malibu … from Rambla Pacifico east past the Big Rock neighborhood … and is projected to begin tree trimming in this area on June 24.

SCE has identified 124 sensitive trees located in that eastern area  that will require trimming The city says that none of the sensitive trees will require trimming beyond the areas trimmed during previous years.

And it’s not clear how many tress that will be cut are not so-called “sensitive” trees.

Sensitive trees are protected by city ordinances … but many landscaping trees are not so-called sensitive trees.

The City’s tree expert consultant … an arborist .. will be monitoring and providing feedback throughout the process.

Southern California Edison has plans to cut trees within 12 feet of its power lines … and in some cases out 20 feet …

That up from the previous safe distance of 6 and a half feet . as recommended … but not required … by the California Public Utilities Commission.

That has prompted howls of complaints … as some of those trees have been there for decades.
