San Diego Tackles Beach Car Dwellers

Written by on March 26, 2019

In news from down the coast … San Diego is also faced with a flood of homeless people living in cars near the beach.

And San Diego officials said Monday … they will pass a new version of the city’s vehicle habitation law … which banned living in vehicles.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports a previous San Diego ordinance was declared unenforceable by a federal judge.

But there have been hundreds of complaints about public urination and other illegal activity on San Diego streets…  primarily in the city’s beach communities

Sound familiar???

San Diego provides two “safe” parking lots … where unsheltered people forced to live in vehicles have a place to go at night.

They will double that number to four.

San Diego says it will copy the vehicle habitation ordinances in other cities … Malibu’s law enforcement office… the sheriff’s department … says its lawyers have told them to stop overnight sleeping ordinance enforcement here.

And like in San Diego … the local government has received complaints about a sharp increase in people living out of cars on public streets.
