The Edge Sent Back To Square One – Appeal Court Blocks His Malibu Ridgetop Mansions

Written by on March 26, 2019

U2 guitarist “The Edge” has lost permission to build his cluster of mansions atop a ridge overlooking the Malibu Pier.

The Sierra Club was handed victory at the State Court of Appeal late last week.

The appeal court reversed a lower court decision … and threw out a Coastal Commission decision to allow five residences and an access road to be constructed along a 3,000-foot stretch of a “significant ridgeline” in the Santa Monica Mountains.

The Court held that the Coastal Commission lacked jurisdiction to grant permits for the project … because Los Angeles County adopted a Local Coastal Plan for the area in 2014.

If the the Edge wants to obtain coastal permits, he must apply to Los Angeles County, not the Coastal Commission.¨

The California Coastal Commission granted the permits in a controversial series of decisions.

It originally turned down the project in 2011 … but the edge hired lobbyists and the PR agency … and promise to contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to the MRCA for trail construction.

No comment yet from The Edge … whose real name is David Howell Evans.

If he wants to build his houses. … you will have to start over and ask for permits from both Los Angeles County … to build the houses … and from the city of Malibu … to build an access road up the steep mountains behind the McDonald’s restaurant at Billionaires Beach.
