Red Flag Warnings Up Tonight, SC Edison Warns It May Kill Power in Parts Of Malibu

Red Flag Warning go up at 6 tonight … but the National Weather Service now says the three major computer wind models are all showing a weaker storm than was predicted 24 hours ago.
And Southern California Edison is warning that it may have to turn off the power in the Point Dume and paradise Cove area tonight or Thursday.
If this trend continues … the Santa Anas may not produce wind gusts worthy of Red Flags.
Still … we expect a very windy day Thursday.
Five days of santa Anas are in the forecast … and the strongest winds will be overnight and tomorrow.
Winds over the mountains of 20 to 30 mph … with gusts to 50 mph.
Isolated gusts to 60 mph in the hills are possible.
The winds will be strongest on Thursday.
Southern California Edison has added the Point Dume and Paradise Cove area t its list of potential power blackouts.
The power company posted notice that customers can expect the lights to go out if its remote wind gauges …. and observations by its field crews … sense a danger of lines failing.
Tens of thousands of SCE customers in a number of regions, including Los Angeles, Ventura counties are being considered for power shutoffs should the high winds take effect.
The State of California is allowing Southeen California Edison to shut off the power … at the power company’s sole discretion … when it worries that the winds are too strong for its overhead power system to function safely.
There is very little oversight of the power company’ decision-making … and KBUU News has learned that its computers start issuing warnings in winds as low as 31 miles per hour.
The City of Malibu’s Trancas Canyon and Charmlee Wilderness Parks will be closed Thursday, December 3, Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5 as a safety precaution due to Red Flag fire conditions.
Lighter offshore winds are expected over the weekend into early next week.
