Parents Invited To Discuss SMMUSD School Reopening Plans, at 6pm Tuesday Online

Written by on July 6, 2020

Santa Monica – Malibu school officials tomorrow night will listen to Malibu parents.

How to reopen the schools this fall.

Superintendent Ben Drati has already had such meetings with parents in Santa Monica.

There. he noted that the plan for Santa Monica may be different than the plan in Fresno … or any other city.

And the plan for Malibu may be different than the plan for Santa Monica.

Drati told Santa Monica parents that he had also met with seniors from high schools throughout the district who had great insight into how they would like school to operate next year.

The district says members of the public can submit questions ahead of time using an online form  … the link is at the top of the agenda.

Because many members of the public will have similar questions … written questions will allow questions to be aggregated by topic, leading to a smoother process.

There are three models .

“Model A” calls for the return of all students in-class five days a week … except for  families who keep their kids home for the optional distance-learning format . which would also be offered,

Model B … is the most-popular option according to the survey given to paretns …

Model B woudl see something like splitting classes in half  …. with one half in class every Monday and Tuesday … while the other attends in-person on Thursday and Friday.

The other three days would feature distance learning.

Another variation in Model B calls for the halves to alternate in-person and distance learning one week at a time.

The final proposal from district staff is Model C, which calls for all students to participate in distance learning only.

Again … he meeting is tomorrow night at 6 on the Zoom platform.
