MRCA Hosts Massive Wedding In Dead End, Tinder-Dry Canyon

Written by on July 30, 2018

Another weekend …. another case of outrage over the M R C A stewardship of its new park in Puerco Canyon.

On Saturday ,,, a gigantic outdoor wedding was held in the twilight … on the mountaintop overlooking Malibu.

Hundreds of guests parked somewhere in Malibu … and were shuttled up the one lane access road … owned by the City of Malibu.

There was apparently no city special events permit for this.

Trucks lumbered up the one lane access road all day … delivering tents … chairs … generators.

A gigantic field kitchen tent was set up … and the tents were placed right next to flammable brush.

KB UU news has obtained pictures of the event … waiters and cooks were seen standing virtually in the tinder dry brush.

No firetruck.

A small water tanker was stationed about a quarter mile away.

The MRCA … the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority …  apparently is using its new James Cameron Wilderness Park as a moneymaker.

And like the movie that was shot up there a week ago … photos of the event show flagrant disregard for fire safety in the tinder dry brush.

We will have pictures of the carnival happening in the so-called wilderness park posted on the KBUU webpage later this morning.

If all this sounds familiar …. This is what the MRCA was doing at the old Barbra Streisand estate in Ramirez Canyon a decade ago.

In that case … neighbors were able to kick out the for rent wedding palace … through court action.

One of those neighbors … Rick Mullen … who now happens to be the mayor of the city of Malibu.

City manager Reva Feldman tells KBUU news she is investigating to see if any city rules about special events were violated.
