Meeting Wednesday, Demolition Starts Monday On Fire Destruction

Written by on January 21, 2019

Next Monday is the scheduled start date for the massive demolition Malibu neighborhoods that were incinerated by the Woolsey Fire.

The small residential streets of Malibu Park … Point Dume … and other Malibu neighborhoods will be full of trucks and heavy equipment.

Property owners who have opted in to the mass debris haul off will get 24 to 48 hours advance notice of their lot getting leveled.

And they will be able to walk the property with the demolition crew before the job…. to specify items that should not be bulldozed.

About 470 structures in Malibu were burned in the fire.

Houses near Malibu High School and on Point Dume will be demolished first … then crews will work outward.

The homes will be torn down in about the same order that they were yellow tagged.

A state agency called California Recycles is in charge.

City of Ventura officials gave the agency good reviews for their job … carting off 500 burned houses from last year’s Thomas Fire.

LA County is holding two Woolsey Fire Recovery Workshop about debris removal and rebuilding.

The first one will be at 6 p m Wednesday at Malibu City Hall.

The second one will be this Thursday at 6 at the Malibou Lake Clubhouse.

The Malibu workshop will include representatives from LA County Public Works, Cal OES, Cal Recycle and the City of Malibu.
