Malibu’s City Council met in an extraordinary early Sunday morning special session.

They had to adjust the language on the ballot for the marijuana deregulation initiative … that will face voters in Malibu this November.

It was a quick meeting and the language was quickly adjusted.

Operators of one of the two marijuana monopoly stores in Malibu paid petition gatherers to put this initiative on the ballot.

It will legalize the home delivery of recreational and medicinal marijuana … which will be taxed by the city.

And that’s what led to Sunday’s special meeting.

A new state law requires a ballot to explain to voters how a new tax will affect their finances..

The city attorney drafted a balance statement that said the new pot delivery tax would raise $75,000.

Operators of the 99 high tide collective say they will sell way more marijuana than that … and they want the ballot to reflect that.

The city council made a change to the ballot to reflect the rough estimate … that the tax would raise between 75 thousand and 150 thousand dollars a year.

The marijuana store operators say that’s low.

Caltrans contractors reopened Malibu Canyon Road at 5 o’clock last night … 12 hours ahead of schedule.

The road was closed Saturday and Sunday for a major re-sculpting of a hill … about a mile and a half up the canyon from the beach.

The cliff side burned a year and a half ago … and rocks and mud have been falling on Topanga Canyon Road every time it rains.

This time … the California Highway Patrol was stationed at the bottom of the Tuna Canyon Road… to prevent drivers from heading up the one way down canyon road … and to enforce a right turn only policy for cars entering PCH.

Waze and other computer Apps have been sending drivers down twisty and dangerous canyon roads … like Tuna Canyon … to get around the Topanga closure.
