Crime statistics for last year are out.

And the level of crime on Malibu is virtually unchanged … some mild statistical variations.

For example … an increase in burglaries from locked cars … but a drop in burglaries from unlocked cars.

Sheriff’s deputies said last night there are no major crime trends … up or down … in the local area.

9 hundred 8 people were arrested in Malibu last year … plus three juveniles.

A third of those people were arrested on outstanding warrants from past crimes.

There were 182 arrests for breaking vehicle laws …  31 of those for drunken driving.

73 narcotics arrests … 36 arrests for alcohol.

A couple of interesting fact …. last year saw a major decrease in car crashes …. down about 23 percent.

During the month of December …. 129 motorists got speeding tickets in Malibu.

Two of those were for going faster than 65 miles per hour … we presume on P C H.

The manager of the Postal Annex store at Trancas has died.

John T. Campbell was 57 … and died peacefully in his sleep … according to his family.

Campbell was a familiar face for 16 years at Trancas.

His friends say John had such a kind heart  and would give anyone who needed him the shirt off of his back.   He was always so kind and cheerful.

A memorial service will be held at the Trancas Market Plaza on Sunday at 10.

A go fund me has been set up to aid his wife Jennifer … from the sudden loss.

We will have a link to it at the KBUU newswire.
