Another luxury coastal business … one of California’s most lavish cliffside resorts … has bene hit with a huge fine for blocking coastal access.

This time … it was the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay.

The California coastal commission levied a $1.6 million fine yesterday against the resort for continually blocking public access to a local beach.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that valet parking was a mjaor issue.

last month …  a Santa Monica hotel was hit with an even bigger fine.

One of the big violations was that the hotel was using parking valets … who were stashing cars in parking spaces reserved for coastal access.

No … luxury hotel guests or restaurant patrons are niot coastal access users.

And that has impact in Malibu … wear Nobu restaurant is using coastal access parking lot spaces underneath office buildings as Val. spaces for its luxury customers.

The city is considering yanking Nobles operating permits over its parking woes.

An update on that is scheduled for next Monday at the metal planning commission.

Three more fashion stores are opening in the Malibu Country Mart … as downtown Malibu continues to evolve into a destination shopping area.

Luxury women’s clothing label Ba&sh is set to open at Malibu Country Mart this July.

White’s Mercantile and All Things Bell also recently opened at Malibu Country Mart in April.

Ba&sh is owed by two best friends … and is described as “where the glamorous meet the bohème,”

White’s Mercantile opened in April … it is owned by singer-songwriter Holly Williams, daughter of country legend Hank Williams Jr. The store is described as “a general store for the modern tastemaker.”

And “All Things Bell” ..  also opened in April … they say they  “draw its inspiration from beach side towns from Santorini to Malibu.”

Silk pajamas the specialty there.

The city’ Public Safety and Preparedness Expo is tomorrow at Trancas.

There … you can learn how you can get yourself, your family and your neighborhood better prepared for wildfires, earthquakes and other disasters.

Following the devastation of the Woolsey Fire, the Malibu community has a unique opportunity to come together and emerge stronger, better prepared and more resilient than before.

One of the best ways to prepare for wildfires, earthquakes and other disasters as individuals, families and a community is to get trained in first aid and emergency preparedness, make emergency plans, and stock up on the right kind of supplies that you will need to survive without help for 72 hours or more in case of a major disaster.

The Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments will be there.

Also … miniature therapy horses that work with the Sheriff’s Department will be there for kids to get acquainted with.

The American Red Cross and the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management.

It’s sponsored by the Malibu Surfside News …  Malibu Times and Radio malibu … 99.1 KBUU.
