——

In news from up the coast … the City of Ventura is set to vote on a lease to get a permanent, year-round homeless shelter up and running in an industrial part of town.

The Ventura County Star reports that the city will spend just over $1.2 million each year to operate the homeless shelter.

The most recent point-in-time survey found 1,669 people countywide were homeless in Ventura County …. starting at the western end of Malibu.

——

In news from down the coast … City of Los Angeles engineers continue to try to prevent the Pacific Palisades from falling onto Pacific Coast Highway.

It was back in 1959 that a huge chunk of the Palisades fell onto P C H … killing a Caltrans supervisor.

The road was rerouted around the massive landslide … that’s why the road veers out towards the beach south of Temescal Canyon Road.

Now … houses up on the Pacific Palisades sit across the street from a cliff … and active landslide with PCH just below.

L A plans a unique test on a new idea … to stabilize the cliffs.

Instead of digging a giant trench and installing vertical columns or a sheet of steel … LA engineers have come up with a new concept.

They propose to dig vertical shafts … pump a cement slurry down the shafts … and mix cement columns down in the hole.

LA proposes a test to see if the idea works.

The whole concept goes before the California Coastal Commission for approval … at its meeting later this month in San Diego.
