Just Like Malibu? OC City And Elected Sheriff Feud, Sheriff Threatens To Pull Out

Written by on May 29, 2020

The Sheriff of Orange County is threatening the city of San Clemente …. Threatening to pull his deputies out of town and end his contract to provide police services there.

Like Malibu … San Clemente hires the local county sheriff to provide municipal police services.

Apparently … there have been years of disputes between San Clemente and the elected sheriff.

That culminated this week when the sheriff sent a letter to the city council … saying that a offense restricting beach access at the San Clemente P or was putting his deputies in a bad position.

The sheriff … Don Barnes … is a staunch opponent of stay-at-home orders issued by the state government.

And he was not happy that his deputies had to enforce a beach closure in San Clemente that he did not agree with.

The San Clemente city council just backed down …

And ordered that the fence at the San Clemente pier fence to be removed.
