Fire Issues Go Before City Council Tonight

Written by on January 28, 2019

Several fire related issues go before the city council tonight.

We’ve already reported that the city manager wants to add a “Fire Safety Liaison” employee to city staff.

This employee would specialize in fire safety and emergency preparedness.

This person would work under Public Safety Manager Susan Duenas.

Longtime critics of Duenas and city manager Reva Feldman are furious.

They are blasting the creation of a job position.

In addition … the city council’s Disaster Response and Recovery Ad Hoc Committee wants to hold public meetings.

New city council members Karen Farrer and Mikke Pierson want to hold public meetings for the committee in the evenings and on weekends when City Hall is typically closed.

That will cost a little money … $2,500 … for staff time to provide support for the meetings … for the staff time to unlock the building.

And the city council is being asked to hire three companies to help expedite the flood of rebuilding requests coming in to the planning and building safety departments.

4Leaf, Inc. will provide planning and public works reviews.

Cotton, Shires & Associates/GeoDynamics, Inc. will do geotechnical review and environmental health review.

And Bureau Veritas/California Code Check will review building plans and help inspect construction.

The city plans to house the workers in temporary trailers to be placed on part of the Chili Cook vacant lot … near Civic Center Way.
