Malibu should explore setting up a joint police department with other cities in western L A County.

That’s the opinion of one city council member …. voiced last night at the city council meeting.

It comes the day before Malibu and four nearby cities will meet to discuss what to do about the fourth major change in command at the Malibu Lost Hills Sheriff station within two years.

Alex Villanueva … the new sheriff … has yanked-around Malibu … in the opinion of many.

Last night … city council member Rick Mullen said the five cities that make up the Council of Governments … the COG … might need to talk about setting up pour own police department.

“Maybe the time has come for us to consider something like that.

“I don’t take that lightly but I’m not on the COG I don’t have these discussions like you guys do on the COG but I just like to throw it out there … that maybe you guys could bring this up to the COG and see what their pulse and find out how they’re feeling about this.”

And that’s exactly what is supposed to happen this morning.

Mayor Karen Farrer says the Malibu-Las Virgenes COG – no stands for Council Of Governments … is going into an emergency meeting this morning.

Agenda one … staffing and personnel changes at the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station.

Mullen said last night the changes in management at Malibu Lost Hills are worrisome.
