COVID-19 Blossoming In California, As Public Health Workers Threatened With Murder

Written by on June 23, 2020

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 across California grew 16% over the last two weeks …. as the state reported more than 46,000 new cases of the virus.

Gov. Gavin Newsom is worried.

California shattered its single-day record for most new coronavirus cases yesterday. More than 6,000 new cases as of last night … up from the previous high water mark of 45 hundred cases.

The number of people hospitalized statewide due to the virus also reached record levels.

Los Angeles County reported a record 2,545 new cases Monday.

Los Angeles County is not only testing more people … but it is seeing a much higher positive rate in the people getting tested.

Dr. Barbara Ferrer says Los Angeles County’s average 8.4% positive rate is way up up from a seven-day average of 5.8% just 10 days ago.

Statewide …the average positivity rate is below 4.9 percent.

In Malibu … 47 confirmed cases.

That’s up from 35 a little more than a week ago.

In the Santa Monica Mountains … 35 cases confirmed right now.

Doctor Barbara Ferrer … the woman we just quoted … has revealed details of written attacks and physical threats she has received over the last three months.

Ferrer told reporters yesterday that the county’s stay-at-home order has resulted in threats on the Internet and in the U S Mail.

And Ferrer said that is one reason why she’s handled the coronavirus briefings on her own: “to shield the extraordinary team at L.A. County Public Health from these attacks.”

Ferrer said in a written statement that she finds it “deeply worrisome to imagine that our hardworking infectious disease physicians, nurses, epidemiologists and environmental health specialists … would have to face this level of hatred.”
