Comments On LA County Fire Response? Here’s Your Chance

Written by on October 25, 2019

Tomorrow … L A County will open the mic to the public … to analyze the report on  what went wrong in the Woolsey Fire.

As we’ve reproted extensively … the county has hired an outside consultant … Citygate Associates … to write a report on the county’s response to the fire …

It h burned 480 houses in a Malibu that was largely undefended against the massive wall of fire.

The fire department has been widely blasted for screwups during the fire … not so much for having its fire trucks over the hill trying to stop the fire at the 101 freeway … but for being unable to deploy fire trucks in the aftermath.

Dozens of reports of fire trucks stopped on P C H … while houses ignited … and firefighters waited for commands.

The sheriff’s office has also been blasted for roadblocks that prevented supplies from reaching the people who stayed behind … and who saved thousands of houses from burning when the fire department was elsewhere and disorganized.

The response we’ve heard from Malibu … so far …  has not been so much what’s in the report … and the analysis of what went wrong last November.

Rather … Malibu seems to be upset with what is going wrong right now.

For example … the local outrage over the County Board of Supervisors recent decision to allow camping in the mountains above Malibu.

And the surprise decision by County regional planning to require drainage plans for lots where houses have been standing for decades.

This is adding months of delay and tens of thousands of dollars to the people in the county who got burned out.

The consultant’s report … from Citygate Associates … will be open for public comment at a meeting this Saturday… in the auditorium at Agoura High School in Agoura Hills.

The public will be offered the opportunity to comment on the fire response … and on the county’s evaluation of its performance.

That meeting will be held from 10am – 2pm at Agoura High School in Agoura Hills.
