Big Winds Peter Out- Red Flags Up To 10p – Additional Blackout Warnings For Sunday – Lookout Thursday

Malibu’s public schools are closed today.
And there is a slight possibility they will be closed on Monday.
More on that in a second.

One last big push of Santa Anas this morning … as fire crews battle a huge fire 40 miles away.
There are no fires … no fires … burning in the Santa Monica Mountains today.
But 70 mile per hour peak gusts are hitting the Santa Monica mountaintops this morning.
Peak wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph with isolated gusts to 70 mph are expected through 10 a-m.
Minimum humidities will lower well below 10 percent.
And temperatures will be between 87 and 97.
This is a dangerous situation in Malibu.
The official forecast is for Santa Ana winds are expected to continue through this morning … then taper off by late this afternoon.
The National Weather Service says our environment is ripe for large and fast fire growth.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect as a result through midmorning.
Conditions cool slightly on Saturday, then a significant cool-down Sunday.

Hot and dry but less windy for 2 and a half days.
Another potentially moderate Santa Ana wind storm is possible Sunday and Monday.
And another Santa Ana may develop Thursday.

All four schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District are closed today.
Fire conditions inland … plus potential power shutoffs . caused the closure to be ordered yesterday.
All after-school activities, including the Middle School dance and Malibu Boys & Girls Club activities, are also cancelled.
The district administrators say they can perceive stress and anxiety amongst Malibu residents … as the city fills with smoke nearly a year since the Woolsey fire.
That … plus the health threat from occasional strong doses of smoke … plus the possibility of overnight power outages … led to the closure of the schools in an abundance of caution.

Southern California Edison has taken Malibu off of the list of places where power might be intentionally shut off today.
30 thousand Edison customers statewide had their power turned off in this wind storm.
About a fifth of those in L A County.
But none in the Malibu area.
And … Sunday night looks to be a major wind problem.
No coastal fog or nice cool weather through Monday.
There were no major power outages reported overnight in the Malibu and Santa Monica Mountains area. The power company has allowed its overnight intentional blackout warnings for Malibu to expire.
Parts of western Malibu goes back on the potential blackout list Sunday night at 6.
Southern California Edison updated its notice to the City of Malibu … with a revised schedule for potential Public Safety Power Shutoffs that could affect three areas in Malibu.
The exact schedule varies a little bit for three circuits … which each serve about a thousand customer accounts in parts of Malibu.
The area from Heathercliff Drive on Point Dume to the west … all the way to Point Mugu…. will see potential wind related cutoffs on Sunday night … starting at 6.
The Paradise Cove area gets added to the list at 9 … Sunday night.
The city suggests that people who are medically dependent on electricity service should consider proactively staying in another area until conditions change.
And they remind us that … if an intentional blackout is implemented … it could take one to three days before electric service is restored.
SCE must first inspect all power lines in the affected circuit area to ensure they are safe to re-energize.
