School Board To Look At New Malibu High Campus Concept

Written by on November 6, 2019

The Malibu High School new campus plan goes up before the school board tomorrow night.

Meeting at Malibu City Hall … the school board is being requested to improve hiring the architect to design the actual buildings.

Rough concepts for the campus layout have been drawn up after 50 community meetings in Malibu.

The plan seeks to redevelop the Juan Cabrillo site and the Malibu Middle and High School campus, with the exception of the existing athletics fields … one just-finished classroom building … and the two buildings currently under construction.

The major focus of the Malibu Campus Plan is to ensure that Malibu Middle and High School are two separate and distinct campuses, while maintaining some shared spaces and facilities.

The rough plan features a large U-shaped drop-off quad designed to support improved traffic circulation along Morning View Drive.

The plan will guide the removal of old buildings and the construction of the new campus over the next eight to ten years. The construction will be partially funded by Measure M, approved by Malibu voters last fall.

There has been no opposition voiced to the plan from the surrounding Malibu Park community … perhaps because attention is focussed on rebuilding after half of its houses were wiped out by the Woolsey Fire.

The board meets for a closed door session at 4:30 at Malibu City Hall.

The open session … with Malibu High and Middle schools scheduled as the only public discussion item .. starts at 6:30 tomorrow night… at Malibu City Hall.
