Blueprints For Civic Center Way Rebuild Go To Planning Tonight

Written by on December 2, 2019

Plans to reconstruct Civic Center Way go before the Planning Commission tonight.

The city plans to rebuild the road … for three quarters of a mile … between Pepperdine University and Webb Way.

No … it’s not going to be widened.

It will still be one lane in each direction.

But perhaps most importantly … sidewalks would be added … so that Pepperdine students no longer would have to walk in the road with their groceries to get back to the dorms.

Bike lanes would be added.

An 8 and a half foot high retaining wall would have to be built … near the Winter Canyon traffic signal.

The road was built in about 1950 … and it includes a curve on a hill that causes sight line problems.

Those would be fixed.

The project will be largely paid for by Metro sales tax funds.

The project has been bouncing around at the city council … Planning Commission … Public Works Commission … and Public Safety Commission at various meetings.

The final blueprints go to the Planning Commission tonight…. at 6:30 at City Hall.
