Arsonist Arrested In Woolsey Canyon, Trying To Reenact Woolsey Fire

Written by on November 11, 2019

An arsonist lit a brush fire in Woolsey Canton on Friday morning … one year after power lines at the same place went down and sparked a fire that burned all the way to the ocean.

Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies said yesterday that their deputies and a police dog tracked down the arson suspect on Friday.

The suspect wrestled with the dog and with sheriff’s deputies … and was arrested for attempted arson and felony assault on the dog.

The fire was reported at around 7:40 a.m. Friday near the western end of Woolsey Canyon Road.

The Ventura County Star reports the torch was not far from where the Woolsey Fire had started one year to the day earlier.

Friday morning’s incident initially summoned a full brush fire response that included Los Angeles city and county units.

Most units were canceled when Ventura County crews arrived and quickly took control of a 20-foot by 20-foot fire.
