Agoura Hills To Examine Kanan Road Traffic – Duh – It’s Bad

Written by on March 25, 2019

In news from over the hill … the perennial traffic jam on Kanan Dume Road at the 101 Freeway is getting attention from the City of Agoura Hills and County of Ventura.

Or at least … some lip service.

The Acorn newspaper reports that Agoura Hills has hired traffic engineers to study Kanan Road north of Malibu.

Thousands of homes north of the freeway … use that section of road every day.

Plus millions of beach users every year … heading to or from Malibu …

Nine traffic lights and the freeway interchange.

Plus … the City of Agoura Hills is considering a massive real estate development … a new downtown … on vacant land at the gateway to Malibu … on Kanan Road south of Agoura Road.

Nearly 12 years ago … Agoura Hills approved a concept for residential, commercial and retail projects—including restaurants and hotels — on Kanan Road just south of the freeway.

No detailed traffic plans or studies were conducted for that project.

Critics point out that the city of Agoura Hills has no way to handle the existing traffic on Kanan Road … much less then tens of thousands of new cars that will clog the area if Agoura Village is built out.

The city’s traffic studies will not be finished for another 18 months.

But the final vote on Agoura Village is coming before that.

Critics of the Agoura Village development projects say there is no way to cram additional traffic onto the already jammed stretch of Kanan Road.

And that story is based on reporting in the Acorn newspaper.
