1 Inch Or More Of Rain This Weekend In First Of Two Rainstorms

Written by on January 3, 2019

A large rain system is heading to Southern California this weekend … with more rain due next Wednesday.

Saturday night will be wet in Malibu … with about an inch of rain possible.

It’s a cut off low … meaning it’s not a part of the normal jet flow of winds across North America.

And that means the weather forecasts are a bit squishy on this one.

But expect strong winds Friday … rain starting Saturday evening …  and snow down to the 45 hundred foot level in the mountains.

There is a 35 percent chance of rain Saturday afternoon … and 65 percent chance of rain Saturday night.

More than an inch of rain is possible … but winds will be drawn up from the south … meaning Malibu could see intense mountain rain as the clouds come ashore.

Downpours are possible … and that may cause mud problems.

The National Weather Service says these storms will intensify off the coast of NorthernCalifornia Friday into Saturday causing large swells as early as Friday evening.

This will bring the potential of high surf between 10 and 15 feet with local sets to 18 feet beginning early Saturday morning up on the Cnetral Coast.

Some of the swell energy will move into the Malibu … bringing the possibility of surf of between 5 and 10 feet across exposed west facing beaches of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

Along with the potential for high surf will be high tides around 6 feet.
