A fifth candidate has pulled nominating petitions for Malibu city council …

Lance Simmens  … a former former chair of the Adamson House Foundation … pulled niminating petitins yesterday.

He served a rocky 10 months on the committee that runs the Malibu crown jewel.

The board said it was removing Simmens from the board …. because his “objectives were not congruent with the mission statement of the Malibu Adamson House Foundation.”

Simmens moved to Malibu comparabkly recently … to the four other candidates.

They are Olivia Damavandi  … Karen Farrer … Jim Palmer  … and Mikke Pierson.

A coastal community near San Diego has told the California coastal commission that it will adopt a crackdown against overnight rentals … no matter what the commission says.

In the the news from up the coast … that section of State Route One that fell into the ocean near Big Sur more than a year ago will reopen today.

Caltrans and a contractor have been working day and night to reestablish a roadway link between Hearst Castle and Monterey.

An entire mountainside fell into the ocean 14 months ago … taking the highway with it.

Beginning today … tourists once again will be able to complete the fabled Big Sur drive, locals will be able to get to work or school hassle-free …  and Big Sur’s tourist-driven economy will see a burden lifted.

It cost $54 million… and the newly rebuilt highway is 250 feet towards the ocean from where it used to run.

Highway 1 … the Cabrillo Highway … reopened to Big Sur.
