Caltrans Moves PCH Lanes Back Over, But Don’t Call That A Design Error

Written by on September 5, 2018

A third set of stripes has been laid down on Pacific Coast Highway … between Puerco Canyon and Latigo Beach.

Caltrans contractors sandblasted and scraped the road over the weekend … trying to cover up an apparent mistake in the design of a temporary realignment of the road.

The state is installing a new median along about three quarters of a mile of road next to a popular beach.

In doing so … it eliminated parking on the land side of the highway … and said it would put up signs to ban parking on the ocean side of the highway.

Hundreds of parking spaces were lost at a very popular beach access area.

City manager Reva Feldman demanded that the parking be restored …

Caltrans now denies that design mistakes were made … after telling KBUU news last week that design mistakes were made.

Whatever the problem … Caltrans has erased some of the stripes and canceled plans for a 24/7 ban on parking along the beach.

Construction will be happening during overnight hours this week.

And hazardous conditions remain … with parking shoehorned next to vehicles moving at 50 miles per hour.

The speed limit is 40 … good luck with that.
