Weekend 2 Of Social Distancing In Malibu: Point Mugu Beaches Closed, Malibu Case Census Unclear

Written by on March 30, 2020

Los Angeles County recorded five more coronavirus deaths on Sunday, bringing the total to 37 as the virus continued to spread.

The county now has 2,136 total confirmed cases, including more than 300 new cases confirmed on Sunday.

The county is now reporting zero confirmed cases in the City of Malibu.

And zero in Santa Monica Mountains … which is puzzling…. as the Santa Monica Mountains were reported as varying between 2 and 3 confirmed cases last week.

Email requests for some sort of explanation have not been replied to.

The county Department of Public health as of Sunday reported 9 cases confirmed in  Agoura Hills.

In Calabasas … 10 cases.

Pacific Palisades … 15.

Santa Monica … 41.

Ventura Coutny reports 109 cases … with 4 dead.

More cases and deaths were reported across California, with officials warning the numbers will spike in the coming weeks.

Weekend two of mandatory social distancing in Malibu.

Beachgoers were shooed away … with threats of a 1 thousand dollar fine for walkign on the beach.

In Manhattan Beach …. on adamant surfer insisted on heading to the beach.

He was hit with a 1 thousand dollar fine.

No word if any such tickets were issued in Malibu.

We saw surfers park on P C H at Zuma … suit up … grab their boards and cross P C H at Zuma …

Halfway across the highway … a deputy in a black and white… fumps on the P A to order them to turn around.

“Why did you wait til now?” yelled one of the surfers … apparently suddenly aware that the public health order shattered his sense of entitlement.

Trails were closed … a few cases reported of hikers parking along roads to jump the fences.

The entire State of California is under stay at home orders.

Tell that to the hundreds … the thousands …  of motorcycle riders and exotic car drivers who had the run of P C H and the canyon roads Sunday.

The empty coast road … was treated as Malibu International Dragway on Sunday.

Hundreds of motorcycles …. bikers doing wheelies … car clubs showing off.

One motorcycle hit a bicyclist on P C H at the east end of town.

Even the few number of cars backed up three miles.

Local places to eat …. like Vintage Market at Trancas …. has long lines of bikers waiting to get in.

Entrance to the market was metered … the parking lot full of motorcycles …. locals unable to get in without waiting in a long line of tourists.

Locals were fuming.

Long into the night … sounds of long vehicles racing on Pacific Coast Highway last night.

Two cars racing at 80 miles an hour up Highland Avenue in Los Angeles crashed early in the morning … killing two.

California State Beaches finally closed the beaches and trails in Ventura County Sunday.

County Line Beach was moderately full of beachgoers on Saturday … as all the beaches in Malibu and L A County had been closed after the debacle one week earlier.

“Everyone from L.A. County understands and realizes that Point Mugu is still open,” park superintendent Craig Sap told the Ventura County Star.

“So, that is concentrating more people there and that makes social distancing impossible.”

So on Sunday … and some would say finally … the state closed Point Mugu State Park.

The Chumash Trail, Mugu Beach, La Jolla Canyon, Thornhill Broome campground, Sycamore Canyon and Sycamore Cove. closed.

County Line Beach … closed.
