What Does Prop 50 Passage Mean To Malibu? Coast And Conservative Simi Valley Now In Same District – Trump Again Accuses Cal Of Rigging Elections – Caltrans Bike Lane Permit Will Likely Be Appealed To Council – LAPD Also Caught Unprepared For Palisades Fire

LA County Votes Almost 3-1 To Slap Back At  Trump – What Does Prop 50 Do To Malibu?

We do not yet have precinct breakdowns … in the California election from last night.

We -do- know that Proposition 50 passed with a 73 percent yes vote in Los Angeles County … a  3 to 1 slap from LA against the president and the MAGA movement.

How does the congressional redistricting affect Malibu??

It actually does … although we will not be getting a new congressperson.

Malibu will remain in the 32nd congressional district of California … the seat currently held by Congressman Brad Sherman.

Malibu will remain in a predominately democratic district … but it will shift dramatically to the right.

Based on how various areas voted for Donald Trump in the last election … Malibu’;s district 32 will move 6 point 2 points to the right.

What happened was … the heavily republican bastion of Simil Valley was cut out ion a district in northern LA County .. a district that went from tossup to leaning democrat.

The republicans from Simi Valley were diluted … mixed into District 32 … which includes Malibu and solidly democratic voting areas of the Hollywood Hills and western San Fernando Valley.

District 32 is still solidly anti Trump … but its percentage of votes for Kamala Harris was 31 points … it now drops to 25.

Just west of us … unincorporated Malibu is in the 26th District … held by Julia Brownley.

Her district becomes slightly more liberal … with all those Simi Valley conservatives lumped in with Malibu.

It’s raw politics … part of the plan to remove six Republicans from Congress … tit for tat against Texas.

This was a huge rebuke to former Governor Arnold Schwartsenegger … who put what’s left of his policitcla chips on the line in a futile attempt to “terminate gerrymandering.”

It was also a rebuke to billionaires like Charles Munger … who dumped millions from his purse into the no on 50 effort.

Not pretty.

Gov. Gavin Newsom called it poking the bear … and the bear growled back.

He tells Politico that Prop 50’s became a vehicle for Democrats’ primal scream against Donald Trump and a manifestation of their thirst to notch a win, any win, against the sitting president.

“They just felt empowered. It gave them something to be for, not just something to be against,” Newsom told POLITICO.”

Trump Accuses California Of Rigging Election, Without Scintilla Of Evidence

Yesterday .. as California voting wrapped up … President Donald Trump alleged the state’s election system was “rigged” “an unconstitutional redistricting” and a “giant scam” on Tuesday.

He said Caliofornia is  “under very serious legal and criminal review.

Blogged the president: “The Unconstitutional Redistricting Vote in California is a GIANT SCAM in that the entire process, in particular the Voting itself, is RIGGED.”

The president provided no evidence for his allegations.

“All ‘Mail-In’ Ballots, where the Republicans in that State are ‘Shut Out,’ is under very serious legal and criminal review,” the GOP president wrote. “STAY TUNED!”

Evidence … you might ask?

The U.S. Department of Justice has asked for more information about noncitizens who attempted to register to vote in California, and the state’s lack of a voter ID law.

The Justice Department also wants to know about a Costa Mesa republican tried to register and vote in her dog’s name.

But there were no examples of widespread fraud or nefarious activity in the special election … either from the White House or the right wing press.

Caltrans Bike Lane And Streetlights Plan Likely Will Be Appealed By Losing Side

The Caltrnas bike lane and repaving project on Pacific Coast Highway. Is apparently going to be appealed to the city council …

This would be to no one’s surprise.

Monday night … the Malibu Planning Commission approved the state’s permit … to add 10 miles of bike lanes and 27 streetlights to Malibu’s main street.

This will be done west of Malibu Creek .. as Caltrans begins a 55 million dollar repaving and traffic safety project.

In a letters to the city council … anti-bike lane activists attack the planning commission vote for being based on emotion.

No formal app[eal has been filed yet.

Pipes Repaired, Water Again Flowing Into Tanks

Work continued this morning on repairing the only water pipes that serves Malibu.  AFTERNOON UPDATE: Pipes repaired and returned to service at about 2:30.

The pipe was taken out of service yesterday … to allow repair of four watermain links that broke out on October 15th.

That’s when a sudden surge in water pressure caused leaks … particularly in places where the 30-inch diameter pipe was leaking.

The work meant that the Malibu water supply was shut off … Monday night … leaving the city reliant on the small amount of water stored in local tanks.

LAPD Equally Caught Unprepared For Palisades Fire, Had To Drive To Zuma Beach With Orders

Los Angeles police apparently screwed up as badly as the LA city firer department … when the Palisades Fire broke out.

An analysis done by the city police department found found breakdowns in communications, sloppy record-keeping and poor coordination with the city’s Fire Department.

Once again … a lack of a plan for a fire next door to Malibu caused major problems.

The report said encroaching flames forced authorities to move their command post several times during the fire response.

Although police and firefighters were working out of the same command post, they failed to “collectively establish a unified command structure or identify shared objectives, missions, or strategies,” the report said.

LAPD was uncertain about who was in charge during there panicked evacatioon onto Pacific Coast Highway.

Cops who were heroically goigndoor to door in the flames … rescuing and evacuating people … did not have protective gear or masks.

More confusion came whenNational Guard troops arrived … and LAPD leaders had  no clear guidelines on what the guard’s role would be.

Communication breakdowns caused by downed radio and cellphone towers caused LAPD “hand deliver” important paper instructions from their command post to their staging area on Zuma Beach … 18 miles up the coast.

Santa Monica May OK Giant Electronic Signs

As Santa Monica tries to save its downtown district … it is trying to take a page from other places … and light up the area with large digital billboards.

16 of them … proposed to light up the Third Street Promenade and adjacent Santa Monica Place mall.

Needless to say … this is generating significant debate over historic preservation, public safety and economic recovery efforts.

The electronic signs would be huge … 1,000-square-feet … on corner buildings and at four locations on the mall.

The city os considering 30 year agreement to allow there signs … although some planning commissioners said a shorter pilot period might be advisable,.

The city would make a lot of money … and money os very short in Santa Monica City accounts.

The city is wheeling under hundreds of millions of dollars it has to pay victims of a child sex pervert who worked for the city years ago.

How much money?
Yet to be determined.

The Santa Monica City Council will review the giant electronic sign proposal in two weeks.

The story is baed on reporting ins the Santa Monica Daily Press.
