Kamala Harris and Ex-First Best Gent Buy House On Point Dume

Ex vice president Kamala Harris and her husband, lawyer Doug Emhoff, have purchased a house near the end of Point Dume, according to celebrity-centric newspapers.

The New York Post reports that Harris and her husband spent $8.15 million on a 4,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, six-bathroom home on a small side street … about halfway between the point’s state park and the elementary school.  It has only a sliver of an ocean view.

The Post, owned by Rupert Murdock and concentrating on celebrity news, reports that several Point Dume residents have spotted Emhoff strolling through the neighborhood.

According to an online listing ,… there new house for Harris and Emhoff new home was originally built in 1979.  It is not on an oceanfront bluff … it’s on an inland side street.

It sits on three quarters of an acre.  Apparently … it is within walking distance of the temporary home for Hunter Biden … the ex-resident’s son.

At late as last summer … Hunter Biden was living in an expensive manufactured house … OK … a mobile home… on Point Dume.

Wouldn’t that be something if Harris and Biden ran into each other at the ice cream shop on Point Dume Village.

‘Human Remains’ Recovered From Below PCH At Corral Canyon Bridge Project

Human remains have been removed from below Pacific coast Highway at Corral Creek.

Cal;trans officials did not explain more, but it can be safely presumed that they ate remains of ancient native Americans.  The remains were discovered during the third and final phase of the new bridge … which is replacing an obsolete concrete arch that was built 80 years ago.

Work is going to resume this week on the bridge replacement at Corral Canyon … that sharp detour where an 80-year-old concrete arch culvert is being replaced.

Although many have made fun of this as an expensive fish ladder … for salmon … the new bridge is necessary because the old concrete arch was unsafe.

Construction of two thirds of the new bridge  has been completed … but work on the final one third ground to a halt on October 23rd.

Starting this month, Caltrans expect to begin drilling for bridge piles … and then start building the final section of bridge deck.

A row of nasty potholes developed lanes developed … as heavy rain caused dirt to shift.  Several motorists reported broken wheels.

Caltrans says all potholes were repaired on Jan. 8 and Jan. 9.

The plastic “channelizer” tubes … that are supposed to channelize drivers continue to be an issue … a spokesman tells KBUU.

“As soon as we replace them, drivers drive through them and knock them out.”

Repairs for that are on the way .. again.

Fraser Bohm Set For Court Appearance Today

Fraser Michael Bohm will be back in court today … as a trial date is set fro the Malibu man who by all accounts mowed down and killed four Pepperdine students two years ago.

The former Big Rock resident is charged with four counts of murder … and four counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence … and he is free on bail as he awaits trial.

Four Pepperdne students were killed on  October 17 2023 … Niamh Rolston, Asha Weir, Deslyn Williams and Peyton Stewart.

Bohm was 22 at the time.

His family has hired high powered defense lawyers … who have repeatedly lost in their efforts to have the murder charges dismissed.

They claim the prosecutors have drastically overcharged their client … and they say Bohm was the victim of road rage.

They also dispute prosecutorial claims that he was driving 104 miles per hour west on PCH at La Costa Beach … speed limit 45.

City Council Wants Discussions – Thorough Discussions – On Silverstein/Conrad Changes

Plans to drastically change the way Malibu City Hall processes fire rebuilds were shelved by the city council Monday night.

The proposal … from council members Bruce Silverstein and Haylyn Conrad … was an effort to put more power into the hands of fire victims and their building professionals.

Among other things … it would allow architects or engineers power to override city technical objections to engineering details.

At least … that was the objections voiced by a majority of the city council.

Silverstein’s proposed new rule would give engineers and architects … with proven credentials … the power to have their plans approved over the objections of city engineers.

At least … that’s the way a majority of the city council read it.

Silverstein disagreed … and made this highly nuanced explanation.

SILV CLAUSES 71814

“This does not say that when someone has those qualifications, the city is obliged to do what they said, which which I think is what you’re assuming, and I think what Steve was assuming too as he described it.

“What this says that if they do meet those qualifications, and they present a plan, and the city reviews the plan, and the city is satisfied that the plan meets the legal requirements. then notwithstanding the fact that there may be some better way to do it that is more conservative than the applicable legal requirement, then the city won’t impose that additional legal requirement requirement.”

Wait a minute … said the other three council members.

They clearly understood that to mean that a project proponent … a builder … gets his plan approved without the city’s engineers proposed changes.

At least …. that’s the way Doug Stewart, Marianne Riggins, and even Steve Uhring were interpreting it.

Here’s Uhring … referring to the city staff working for building official Yolanda Bundy.

UHRING TAKES AWAY  71812

“We’re paying Yolanda and her staff a lot of money.  That’s their job and they are good add and I don’t want it. Take away. Anything take away anything

UHRNG: “Yes it does Bruce.”

Doug Stewart had the same problem… and he pointed to the New Zealand brothers who have purchased 16 oceanfront lots and plan to have their expensive custom houses constructed in China and shipped here on boats.

CHINESE ENGINEERS 71813

“they are going to have this property and you can have a California engineer certified whatever they wanna do. How is the city going to override that with your language that there is a range of possibilities within their professional and the answer as well you might lose your license.”

Of course, losing his license may be of little impact to an engineer in China …fabricating houses in China to be assembled in California.

And there’s another major problem.

Housing official Yolanda Bundy has been emphatic in the past… City staff cannot waive requirements made by the California building code.

But Bundy has not been given an opportunity to weigh in on proposed changes made by Silverstein and echoed by council member Conrad.

After a polite back-and-forth… No acrimony the city council agreed unanimously that his needs a whole lot more discussion … maybe after the new city manager comes on board t After a polite back-and-forth .his March.

Trump Promises To Cut Off Federal Aid To Sanctuary Cities, Like Malibu

President Donald Trump yesterday said federal aid will be cut off to every American city county or state that has declared itself to be “a sanctuary” … a promise not to cooperate with the federal government on immigration enforcement.

California is a sanctuary state.

L A County is a sanctuary county.

Malibu is a sanctuary city.

Eight years ago … the Malibu city council made that largely symbolic move ..

In 2018 President Trump … in his first term … ordered the arrest of people in this country without papers.

Malibu made national headlines when the city council voted 3 to 2 to become a self proclaimed sanctuary.

Backers said it was a chance for Malibu’s privileged class to stand up for the city’s vulnerable population … the people who serve the food … who clean the houses, who look after children and keep the landscaping looking lush.

Yesterday …. President Donald Trump said he will suspend federal funding to sanctuary cities and states beginning Feb. 1.

Malibu recieves almost no federal funding … with one big exception.

Disaster money.

By one estimate … Malibu is due 11 million dollars or so in federal reimbursements for expenses in putting out the City of Los Angeles’s Palisades Fire … as it chewed into the eastern one tenth of Malibu.

The president has not even sent the California request for disaster assistance over to Congress.

Yesterday’s proclamation by president Trump follows his $10 billion cut to child care funds in blue states last month … and his October cancellation of nearly $8 billion in funding to states that voted for Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Remember … this federal money flows from California to Washington in a greater per-capita tax rate than almost any other state.

L A County gets a lot of federal money … flowing back from DC to benefit school children … sick people and other federal obligations.

Yesterday … the LA County Board of Supervisors doubled down …

They voted to create ICE free zones to protect people against random capture … roughing up and shooting by masked federal agents.

=======

A loud sonic boom and spectacular light show are very possible over Malibu and the west coast tonight.

NASA is bringing the SpaceX Dragon 11 space capsule back to earth tonight.

The ship will hit the ocean just west of San Diego … splashdown will be an estimated 100 miles south of Malibu.

And the trajectory passes just about right over us.

West Coast landings for manned spacecraft are exceedingly rare.

Just one has happened before now.

It is possible that the reentry will cause a large illuminated cloud …. But that may be several thousand miles west of us … over the ocean.

We may get a loud sonic boom … however.

Expect all this to happen at about 40 minutes after midnight tonight.
