Wagner Proposed Car Impound Lot On Point Dume

Written by on January 29, 2019

A location on Point Dume has been recommended by Malibu Mayor Jefferson Wagner as a new location for a vehicle impound lot .. a critical piece of municipal services that is currently homeless.

Malibu Tow … the longtime private company that has cleared Malibu traffic crashes and helped people get their cars started … has lost its leased location behind the old county courthouse.

Wagner says the lot currently occupied by the Wilcox Photography studio … next to fire station 71 on Pacific Coast Highway … would make an ideal spot for the impound yard.

It would not be a junkyard .. Wagner says … as crashed cars are removed from the yard and taken to a junkyard outside the city.

Wagner says the mostly vacant lot at Point Dume is the perfect spot for the impound yard.

“I can qualify that for 34 years with Malibu Tow here, that they have served out community here with an effort that is beyond the call of duty. It’s a commercial property,. it’s where the ambulances park, it’s right next to Station 71, so it’s a strategic area.”

Wagner said the impounded cars would not be visible from P C H .. and said the need is critical  for a base of operations for tow trucks in Malibu.

“When you want them in the middle of summer and there is a TC (traffic collision)  at the east end of Malibu and you have some business down there, if you don’t have Malibu Tow and you have Platinum or Bob’s (towing services) coming in here from out of town, you add an hour or two to their response (time.)”

How the plan to put an auto impound yard on Point Dume will go over with neighbors… has yet to be seen.
