Ventura County: Some Beaches Open, Some Not – Golf Courses Now ‘Essential’ – Seniors ‘Acting Like Teenagers’

Written by on April 22, 2020

The State of California still has an order … in effect statewide … that prohibits unnecessary travel.

But Ventura County has now declared that driving to a golf course is essential.

Beaches are closed at Point Mugu State Park … but Deer Creek beaches are apparently not affected by the order.

Confused?

So are officials in Ventura.

During a Board of Supervisors meeting yesterday morning, the County Executive Officer Michael Powers said the county has now rescinded a loosening of the stay-at-home order announced Friday.

The Ventura County order has allowed gatherings of up to five people.

That has been rescinded …  because some found it “permissive and a little confusing.”

The Los Angeles County Public Health Department head is begging Angelenos not to head to the beaches this weekend … as high temperatures hit 92 in the Valley.

The decisions were made based on what would be safe for Ventura County residents, and newly opened sites could become overwhelmed by out of area visitors.

At this point in the battle to slow the spread of COVID-19, there is concern that visitors could become infected and bring the virus back home for further spread in Los Angeles County.

LA County is regularly reviewing restrictions and will not relax stay at home orders until it is safe and sensible for the health of all LA County residents.

Back in Ventura County … golf courses and bike shops can reopen, and in-person sales of vehicles are now permitted.

But Ventura County residents are still required to stay home as much as possible … says Dr. Robert Levin, county public health officer.

Levin said people complain about teenagers getting together, but he has heard of seniors “acting like teenagers” and gathering. He recommended seniors limit golf groups to two people.Officials will take stock of their new rules in two weeks to see how Ventura County is faring.
