Water Supply Restored To Malibu After 12 Hours Of Broken Supply Pipe

The water supply in Malibu was back to normal overnight, as repairs were finsihed at a major water main break at PCH at Coastline Drive, the entrance to Sunset Mesa.
Malibu was urged to converse water after what the county called “a series of water pipe breaks “cut part of the water supply.
LA County Waterworks District 29 could not supply us with any details about the water shortage last night … or this morning.
Water supplies were repaired at 1:36 this morning.
Sources tell KBUU that the Malibu water delivery system failed right under the Getty Villa Museum.
Residents were told to immediately stop outdoor water use … to limit indoor water use to essential needs only.
The request … immediately conserve water to help maintain system stability.
The reason we know this .. yesterday at midday … a KBUU reporter happened across a large flow of water streaming down Coastline Drive … from Sunset mesa …
That’s an area served by the same LA County pipe that delivers all of the water to Malibu and Topanga Canyon.
The water was flowing at curb level … two traffic lanes wide … out onto PCH and into the ocean.
A large apiece of pipe was spotted in the middle of Coastline Drive.
No one at LA County Waterworks will comment.
But a dispatcher tells KBUU that the water main was patched and put back into service at 1:36 this morning.
LA Country has not informed residents of this …
Last time this happened … last summer … it escalated into some water tanks running dry in some Malibu neighborhoods.
That meant there was no firefighting water in hydrants.

Two Public Events On Malibu Streets: Friday and Saturday

Two demonstrations in the next two days in the Malibu Civic Center.
National politics will take center stage in Malibu Saturday at noon … with a large “No Kings Day” protest march expected at noon.
The Malibu Democratic Club and Indivisible Malibu plan to meet at no-one ion the street in front of the Malibu Library and peacefully march together through the Whole Foods and Country Mart shopping areas.
They plan to use crosswalks and follow all pedestrian laws.
Organizers say they will avoid PCH due to safety concerns.
The groups say their core principleis a commitment to nonviolent action.
They say they expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Remembrance Of Four Pepperdine Students At Webb Way Ghost Tires Friday

Tomorrow afternoon … a community remembrance of four women killed on Pacific Coast Highway will take place at the ghost tires on PCH at Webb Way.
This is the same location … incidentally … where a violent crash happened yesterday morning.
That was a two car head-on collision that resulted in one car mowing down the traffic light control boxes at the northwest corner of the intersection.
The rememberence will be for victims Asha Weir, Deslyn Williams, Niamh Rolston and Peyton Stewart.
The two-year anniversary will be marked with a news conference at 2:30… And a community remembrance of the four women at 4 PM.
At least one parent of the women will be here … David Rolston, the father of victim Niamh Rolston.
He has been an outspoken advocate of lowering speed limits… and changing the roadway layout from highpped highway to low speed arterial.
Pressure groups from outside Malibu will also be speaking … like members of Fix PCH and the Los Angeles based Streets Are For Everyone.
An opponent of bike lanes one PCH will also be speaking … Michel Shane … who lost his daughter Emily to a homicidal drunk driver 15 years ago.
That will be Friday afternoon at 4.

Caltrans To Ask Planning Commission Permission For Traffic Calming Monday Evening

All of this will be just three days before the Malibu Planning Commission votes on a request from Caltrans for a major safety makeover of Pacific Coast Highway in the western half of Malibu.
The state is asking for a coastal development permit to add bike lanes ,… make the existing road lanes more narrow … and slow down traffic inter 50and 55 mile per hour sped limit areas.
Planning commissioner John Mazza is already publicly raising red flags about the Caltrans plan.
He posted a warning on Facebook this week … saying that the entire nature of Pacific Coast Highway could be changed.
As a planning commission member… Mazda and the other four planning commissioners are supposed to enforce Malibu’s land use plans and zoning regulations.
It’s not clear why state highway engineering plans fall under that jurisdiction.
It’s also not clear how the state engineering plans can be modified or rejected under the city’s zoning rules. … or the coastal commission’s land use or local implementation plans.
And it’s not clear what the state will do if the Planning Commission votes down their permit.
Theoretically … they could appeal it to the city council … or to the Coastal Commissiojn.
But we’ve never seen the city planning commission try to assert itself over control fo PCH … which the state often reminds us is state property … beyond malibu regulation.

Caltrans Is Confused About Just Why It Is Appearing Before Planning Commission On Monday

Caltrans officials are confused by the hearing.
Last night … a state spokesman told KBUU that the Monday night Planning Commission meeting is about the two roundabouts proposed for PCH west of Trancas.
That would be wrong.
The Monday night Planning Commission item is for the Caltrans 64 million dollar complete streets project …
The project that would affect PCH from malibu Lagoon to Ventura County.
The project that promises bike lanes and other changes to increase safety and mobility features for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists to share the road.”
The roundabouts are on the same stretch of highway ,… but not part of this project.
And all of this is separate from that big PCH Master Plan Feasibility Study … which is now more than one year overdue.
The Master Plan is now scheduled for release at some vague date … before the end of the year.

US Atty For LA Can Only Bring 2 Indictments Against Palisades Arsonist

A federal grand jury in LosAngeles has returned two indictments against Jonathan Rinderknecht .. the former LA resident accused of starting the January firestorms.
But quizzically … the grand jury only returned two indictments against the former Pacific Palisades resident on Wednesday.
The fire killed 12 people … but there are no homicide charges returned by the US grand jury.
It appears that the Southern California Department of Justice office may be in disarray.
There are questions about any indictments returned in Los Angeles .. because of the apparent illegitimacy of the acting US Attorney … William Essayli.
Calikfornia’s two democratic senators claim that President Donald Trump broke the law to keep Bill Essayli in control of the LA office.
They allege that Trump quietly installed him as “Acting U.S. Attorney,” bypassing Senate oversight.
Until the Senate confirms him … there are legal questions over whether the Department of Justice e has legal authority to return indictments in the Los Angeles district.
