SMMUSD Board Fraud Suspect Wins Election

In one election race that sort of snuck by us … Santa Monica city councilman Tony Vazquez … the husband of Santa Monica school board member Maria Leon-Vazquez … won one of two runoff spots in the race for the State Board of Equalization.
That obscure agency deal with tax matters in California … it’s actually quite powerful.
And its a lucrative spot for career politicians … it pays 147 thousnad dollars a year,
Tony Vazquez is under investigation by two agencies … as is his wife … a member of the local school board in Santa Monica and Malibu.
The Los Angeles Times has reported that Maria Leon-Vazquez voted multiple times for contracts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to two businesses which had employed her husband as a consultant.
Tony Vasquez is nothing if not politically connected … and was endorsed for the State Board of equalization seat by numerous politicians in LA County.
Six Democrats split the vote in the rather obscure primary race.
