More news now … on the possibility of a violent clash between protestors at the Santa Monica Pier this Sunday.

Santa Monica police have warned that anti-vax demonstrators … inclluing radical elements like the Proud Boys … plan demonstrations at the pier Sunday morning.

Loosely-organized left wing agitators … called Antifa by the city police … are planning a counterprotest.

Last Tuesday … the Santa Monica city council tightened up its ordinances to prohibit items that could be used as weapons at demionstrations.

A long list of items have been banned at street demonstrations.

Poles, plastic pipes, or wooden sticks.

Rocks and pieces of concrete, glass bottles, aerosol sprays, slingshots or catapults.

Also long chains, knives, martial arts weapons.

Baseball bats, laser pointers, metal containers, gas masks or similar breathing devices, also banned at public street demonstrations.

SMPD Captain Candice Cobarrubias discussed the event as part of a presentation to Council this week that asked for additional restrictions on the kinds of items allowed at protests.

As quoted in the Santa Monica newspapers, Cobarrubias said the Freedom Rally organizers have held other events in Santa Monica without incident, but this weekend’s gathering was cause for concern as it had been advertised on far-right internet sites and picked up by far-left opponents.

On Aug. 24, the two sides clashed in Portland. The conflict included large scale property destruction and some physical injuries. An anti-vaccine protest in Los Angeles also turned violent last week when a man was stabbed in the chest.

She said the department is prepared for the protest. … appears to be on track to be approved by ther Coastal Commission next month.
