Sheriff Plan To Review 400+ Deputy Cases Under Fire

Written by on March 13, 2019

The L A County Sheriff and his self-proclaimed “Truth And Reconciliation Commission” are being investigated by the LA County Board of Supervisors.

And the sheriff’s use of the very term “Truth And Reconciliation Commission” is being attacked as an offensive misuse.

Yesterday … the county Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to have the county’s lawyers to evaluate the legality of the so-called “truth and reconciliation” panel.

They also ordered Villanueva to stop reevaluating discipline that was imposed by his predecessor, former Sheriff Jim McDonnell, until a full review of the panel is completed.

Three top assistants to sheriff Alex Villanueva are examining the firings or other discipline handed out to 400 sheriff’s deputies by the previous sheriff…. Jim McDonnell.

A Truth And Reconciliation Commission was empaneled in South Africa after apartheid … to be a public airing of charges of racial violence bu public officials.

The sheriff’s so-called “truth and reconciliation” commission is behind closed doors … and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas yesterday questioned how that can possibly be used as a descriptor by the sheriff as he seeks to rehire deputies found to have been bad actors.

Supervisor Janice Hahn noted that the commission reinstated a top campaign aide to Villanueva … was made up of three men who saw a video of the deputy appearing to break into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment with a crow bar.

The sheriff is sticking to his plan.

He says there are more than 400 cases of deputies disciplined for various offenses … that were wrongly adjudicated in the past.
