Metro Plan For Sepulveda Toll Lanes May Squeeze More Cars Onto PCH

Written by on July 25, 2019

Every day … heavy commuter traffic in Malibu is aggravated by commuters trying to avoid the 405 freeway through the Sepulveda Pass.

Metro is studying three subway and one monorail plans for the 405 corridor.

Metro has $5.7 billion earmarked for a subway or monorail for the 405 between Westwood and the Valley.

But now comes the study with the actual price tag.

As much as 13.8 billion dollars.

That’s more than double the previous estimate from Metro … the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

How to make up the difference???

Metro officials say they will seek federal and state grants to make up the funding gap … maybe a partnership with the private-sector.

And metro suggests that congestion pricing would also raise a vast amount of money quickly.

And this is where this gets interesting for Malibu.

Paying for the subway to the 405 might mean charging tolls for everyone Crossing over the Sepulveda Pass.

Imagine how many thousands of cars that would divert to Pacific Coast Highway.

Metro is already planning to convert the 405’s carpool lane into a toll lane between the 10 and the 101 freeways.

That will add to traffic jams on the non-toll lanes of the 4-0-5.

And that will divert more commuter traffic on P C H. .
