Rain? About An Inch In Malibu Today, But Significantly More On Kanan Dume Rd

Written by on February 4, 2019

More rain today … but nothing like what the Malibu area got Saturday.

We could get one inch of additional rain in the next 24 hours.

The heaviest rain should arrive in Malibu today at about 11:30.

The third major storm in four days will not be as strong as that  rain Saturday.

And over the weekend … only about half of what was predicted to fall … fell.

Nevertheless … at least one large debris basin filled up with mud dirt and rocks o Saturday.

La Sonora is a side street that goes east up the hill from the main street in in Malibu West.

Above La Sonora is a large canyon … with a debris dam at the base of it.

Homes along La Sonora and paseo Canyon were threatened … evacuations were briefly called for.

The main street in the Malibu West subdivision on Saturday was left … in places … with almost a foot of goop and lots of sharp rocks.

At least one home was observed with mud just beginning to flow inside … before the water started going down.

Numerous other streets in Malibu were coated with mud or standing water.

PCH had a major mudflow at Zuma Beach … and the hillside between Porco Canyon road and Corral Creek shed significant mud on the westbound Pacific Coast Highway.

Below that … Malibu Road was coated with mud and flooded.

In Malibu Park … more mud under the streets at Cuthbert at Harvester.

PCH was closed briefly Saturday … as crews removed the soup below the Cuthbert landslide.

Demolition works begins with heavy equipment tomorrow … as L A County’s Department of Public Works sends 15 crews to the Malibu and Agoura Hills / Oak Park area.

Rain is delaying the heavy equipment.

Coby Skye is the assistant director at the county DPW.

NEWSCART 03500 QQQ WORK STARTS TODAY

“Well you are going to continue to see crews out there.

Because the winds are continuing through Monday, you may not see debris removal start until Tuesday or air Wednesday. But you are definitely going to see cruise starting to clear sites next week.”

But preliminary work began last week… chimneys getting knocked down … things like that.

Work will start in the Malibu High School and Point Dume areas first.
