Caltrans Beach Parking Fiasco Discussions Continue

Discussions continue … between Caltrans and the city of Malibu … over what to do with the unfolding traffic disaster near Latigo Beach.
As we’re ben reporting … the state has put temporary concrete dividers up for a construction project in the middle of the road.
That results int he two lanes being pushed to the roads shoulders … out towards the ocean floor up towards the hillside.
That has resulted in roadside shoulders that are far too narrow to park on … along a one mile strip of road where thousands of beachgoers get out hundreds of cars are parked every day … people use the beach.
After KBUU you called to ask about the situation … caltrans said they would ban Beach access parking on a 24-7 basis for the next five months.
City manager Reva Feldman says that’s not acceptable … she wants the temporary construction zone put on a diet and parking restored.
But that may mean skinny … narrow lanes … and a 30 mph speed limit.
As if that has worked well on P C H at the Escondido Beach construction drive.
Last night at 11 … Caltrans was putting more concrete median barriers int he middle of the road.
The state tells KBUU they are still evaluating the issue.
